Thesis Thursday

So I need a favor from EVERYONE.  As in EVERYONE.  Please continually check in on me and make sure I am progressing on my thesis.  O.K. how about we pretend the last couple of weeks didn't even happen?  Because quite frankly, I have not exactly been in the writing mood.

Since I don't have a huge thesis update this week, I will go a little off topic. The university has instituted this new "security" policy.  You know, because someone from the outside might just want to go and sit in on a BORING lecture or even go do some research at the almost non-existent library.  The security guard checks our photo i.d. EVERY.TIME.WE.ENTER.THE.BUILDING.  Do you know how annoying that is when I am trying to be fashion-conscious?   I change my handbag every week which means that every week I leave my school i.d. IN THE WRONG BAG.

Anyway, if you forget your school i.d. you have to show your driver's license, fill out a paper with your student number, and offer to give your firstborn child to the institution should something happen while you are on school property.  ANNOYING!  As in HIGHLY ANNOYING.  I have been there for over one year.  And I know that besides a handful of professors, I.AM.THE.ONLY. Caucasian and Native English speaking student on campus.  So really. It completely BUGS that Mr. Security Guy goes through the same routine every time I forget my i.d.

A couple of months ago, I told him in my oh so proficient Spanish "I am the only native English speaker/white girl here on campus.  How can you not remember me?  I completely stick out like a sore thumb.  It's not like there's a bunch of us.  Do we really have to go through this i.d. thing every week?"  Needless to say, he hasn't checked my i.d. since that incident.  It's a win-win situation.  Saves him the work.  Saves me time . . . and my firstborn child.

No Child Left Behind and teacher quality of English language learners. That's a good topic for next week. I will go into more detail next Thesis Thursday.

My mom always talks about what it was like to write her thesis (30 yrs. ago--don't tell her I told you that). She had to type it on a type writer and there were no internet resources. Can you imagine? Best of luck with your writing and security issues. :)

I LOVE the picture that you have on your blog header!

I am so impressed that you are getting your thesis. I can't even keep up with the laundry. Go, you!

I don't know that I could be much help but I can honestly say that you are amazing for doing this.

Ashley- Oh, the horror! And to think that I keep complaining about my stupid laptop that has Vista on it. I guess I'll go for Vista instead of a typewriter.

Lauren- Oh how I have missed you and your commenting! I guess I need to blog in order to get comments, right? Heather hooked me up with the picture and the blog background. It is VERY fitting right now for this stage of my life. Merry-go-rounds or ROLLER COASTERS anyone?????
